Headhunter Outdoors Report 10-15-07

October 16th, 2007 by CCCB Press

Hi folks,Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Spots in the waterway, Spots in the surf, Spots from the piers. If you want to know where the best place to fish this time of the year is, I’ll tell you! IN THE WATER! It really doesn’t matter what you like to catch, they’re biting. The sound is full of Reds of all sizes. The big flounder are around the deep water docks and are hungry. If you ain’t losing rigs while flounder fishing, you ain’t in the right spot. Big Flounder like rough structure so the rougher the better. Creek mouths are another good place to fish too. There ain’t no telling what will hit. Heck I caught a 4 lb Spanish in 2 feet of water along the waterway last week. He was hanging around with a school of nice Reds. The Specks are moving and some nice ones are being caught. The New river is packed full of Trout now. Try around the Hi-rise bridge with a jig or live shrimp.
The piers are reporting some nice Spot runs usually at night and the Kings are still tearing it up out on the end. Most of the hardcore guys are saying that they have never seen the Kings biting from the piers this late in the year. Thats good news for the small boat folks. Just be careful going out. The Dredge is down around the inlet so watch out for pipelines and other equipment in and around the water.
Offshore thing are still biting. Kings, Grouper, Mahi, what do you want to catch? Go fishing! they are still from the beach on out and are at all the usual spots. Bait is plentiful so go! Check the weather first and be careful. Even the best seamen and women can have trouble.
On the hunting side I am proud to report that one of my best friends finally got a nice 8 pointer with his bow. We were supposed to go but I couldn’t go at the last minute so him and his son went to Virginia last weekend to hunt his Grandfathers farm. He told me that in 2 days he saw probably saw 25 deer and 15 turkeys. Funny thing is he missed the first shot and the deer didn’t spook and just circled around behind him. Well that was a mistake on that bucks part. The second shot was perfect and the buck didn’t go 30 yards. Hey buck fever has gotten the best of all of us at one time or the other. Then before he even got out off his stand he calls me on his cell phone to tell me. That old boy sounded like he was about to bust! It was his first 8 pointer and he was proud. Oh by the way he looks better in person than in this weeks photo. Come to think of it his drivers license picture looks like a mugshot too. Well thats it for this week folks, send in your pictures and remember to take a kid with you.

Headhunter Outdoors Report 10-8-07

October 8th, 2007 by CCCB Press

Hi folks Capt.David here with this weeks outdoors report. As I’ve said for the past few weeks, the fish are biting! The spots are running better and a lot of them are being caught along the waterway and in the surf. It really doesn’t matter whether you are in the surf or on the pier, but the piers seem to be the hotspots. Going at night, after work is a good idea! Folks are catching Mullet and a few croakers along with Red and Black drum in the surf zone as well. I heard of some really big reds being caught up at the New river last week. Folks we are talking about 30+ pounders.

Back in the sound, Flounder, Reds, and some big Black drum are being caught. The Specks are starting to move and are biting up in the River as well. Heck the Specks have been biting up there all summer! My buddie, Ricky Kellum has been tearing them up all summer. Folks please go fishing, you don’t want to miss this fall bite that is going on now. If you are fishing and ain’t catching nothing, MOVE!

Offshore the fish are biting and are still close in. I heard someone caught a big Tarpon off of one of the piers last week too! You can never guess what will bite this time of the year? Imagine that!

On the hunting side, everbody knows that regular gun season comes in on Saturday for Deer. Folks a lot of folks are going to be running dogs and a few of them are going to get lost. If somebodies hounddog shows up at your house don’t freak out. Look at the dogs collar and call the phone number on it. These dogs may look starved and pitiful, but most athletes are skinny anyway. Thats what these dogs are. They ain’t mean dogs and just want some attention. Give them some water and hold on to them till their owners show up. Most of these dogs are worth a lot of money and the owners are grateful for the kindness shown to their dogs. Heck you might even make a new friend! I’m kind of aiming this info to the new folks to the area that don’t understand whats happening. Some of these swamps and Bay thickets are so bad that you can’t get a bulldozer through them and dog hunting is the way deer have been hunted here forever. It’s a tradition in these parts ya’ll. Don’t get crazy if you see a bunch of folks parked along the road with guns. WE AIN’T BEING INVADED! Don’t call the sheriff’s dept. cause they are going to tell you what I just did. That wasn’t proper grammar was it? Oh well nobody ever accused me of being real smart either! Duck season is as follows for all interested parties. Oct3-6 too warm! Nov10-Dec1 hope for cold weather up north. Dec15-Jan26, it’s on! Well thats it for this week so remember, Take a kid with you, hunting or fishing. Be safe and be careful out there.
