Still no reports for offshore. Inshore at the mouth of the Cape Fear & around Southport catching a few black bass, some Virginia mullet, & small croaker. In the bays & waterways some small red drum, black bass, & a few croaker. Still a few strippers being caught around Brunswick River & up around the battleship & the mouth of Smith Creek. The piers will be opening soon so we will start having pier reports.
Fishing tip of the week: For those of you with boats be sure to check your battery connections. Take a small wire brush & clean the terminals & wire connections. I do this every six months. Keep fishing & be safe.

We have had some really beautiful days the past few days. This still doesn’t create fish. The water temperature is still too cold. There are still reports of a few red drum in the bays & off Masonboro Island. There have been a few small Virginia mullet at the mouth of the Cape Fear. They are doing some major dredging between Oak Island & Bald Head which might turn the fish away from that area.
Fishing tip of the week is on setting the hook for inshore fishing. I have noticed a lot of my charters go into the panic mode when they have a small bite. As soon as the fish comes in contact with the hook, don’t’ jerk jerk jerk, let the fish pull then set the hook. Keep the tip up in the air & reel steady. Enjoy the time it takes to land the fish. You will catch a lot more fish by not panicking when you get a bite. Keep fishing and be safe.
