Affordable Charters Fishing Report

Fishing has been pretty slow due to the cold weather & snow day. Some have still weathered the cold & there have been some catches of speckled trout off the docks in the yacht basin. Also some red & black drum & a few Virginia mullet off the surf.

Berry Lucas & Joe Sneed caught red drum & black drum around Bald Head Island this past week.

Debbie Carty caught a nice size drum while fishing with Affordable Charters at Masonboro Island.

  

Due to the arctic blast we’ve had the water temperature has dropped. This makes the fish pretty lethargic. Wait for a few nice sunny days & the bite will pick back up. Still a few Virginia mullet, black drum, & small puppy drum caught in the surf. Waterways & river speckled trout, some striped bass, catfish, red drum, black drum, black bass & Virginia mullet.

Fishing tip of the week: At the south end of Wrightsville Beach there have been some really nice catches of very large up to 2 lb. range Virginia mullet caught in the past couple of week. These are not only fun to catch but great to eat. Keep fishing & stay safe.

Blast from the past: Courtesy of Richard Anderson. His father (2nd from right on bottom with white tshirt)chartered a fishing trip in July 1968 with Captain Eddie Henneman. They caught a nice mess of fish including a 185 lb Jewfish which is in the grouper family.(This is Shawn McKee’s grandfather.)

Shawn Carty caught this 25 lb black drum in the surf with light tackle & 10 lb test line. It was about a 45 minute battle to land this monster.
